Michael Murray is a game designer on the Tekken Project team at Bandai Namco Games. He is often seen in interviews translating into English for Katsuhiro Harada. He originally started on the Tekken team in localization of Tekken 4 (arcade) but eventually went on to game design for Tekken 6.

Michael currently is the main producer of Tekken 8.

Trivia

  • He is fluent in English and Japanese.
  • He often changes his hairstyle while Harada's hairstyle roughly always stays the same.
  • He has attended university in Japan briefly.
  • He is a father.[1]
  • He holds a black belt in Jujutsu[2], and also practices Muay Thai[3]. By coincidence, this would lead him to both Nadaka Yoshinari and Suakim PK Saenchai, who would act as the motion capture actors for Fahkumram.
  • Both Murray and Harada appear at the final stretch of Arcade Quest's story in Tekken 8, commentating on the final tournament. After the story, Murray can be found fighting Harada at Champion Cup, and Murray's ghost can also be fought at Final Round for unique customization items.
  • Following the release of Season 2, Murray, Ikeda, and the developers behind Tekken 8 were heavily criticized by a portion of the Tekken community, including professional players, due to adding more focus on offense and aggression as well as bugs within the game. Ikeda later publicly apologized for the direction and handling of Season 2, and previous members of the balance team were reinstated for future updates.
    • After the release of Season 3 and Harada leaving Bandai Namco, they were heavily criticized once again by the Tekken community and professional players. Despite using the theme of "back to basics" in the Season 3 trailer, characters were widely given new or returning moves, and offense was once again more emphasized than defense. Certain "new" moves were also recycled from already-existing strings.
